How clearer messaging, a unified brand platform and a redesigned website helped an established credit union prepare for its next chapter of growth.
The Business
Greater Kentucky Credit Union had spent decades building something money can't buy: the trust of its members. It had strong relationships in the communities it serves and a reputation as a financial institution people could count on.
Then a new leadership team stepped into place. They saw that foundation as an asset worth building on. And they saw an opportunity to prepare the organization for what came next.
The Challenge
GTKY faced a challenge common to established credit unions. How do you modernize without walking away from what made you successful?
The existing brand, website and marketing presence no longer fully reflected where the organization was headed. The credit union's product offerings had evolved, and so had consumer expectations. But the way GTKY presented itself hadn't kept pace.
There was also a generational question. Leadership wanted to strengthen engagement with younger people while continuing to serve a loyal membership base. Those two goals can pull in different directions if they aren't handled with care.
The easy move would have been a new logo and a fresh coat of paint. But a cosmetic update wouldn't solve the real problem. GTKY needed clarity on how it was positioned, what it wanted to say and how every part of its marketing would work together.
So that's where we started.
What We Found
Through our Blueprint process, which included stakeholder conversations and strategic workshops with leadership, one theme stood out: GTKY didn't need to become something new. It needed to communicate who it already was in a way that fit where it was going.
The credit union's strengths were real. Member relationships, community roots and trust didn't need to be replaced. They needed to be expressed in a way that felt relevant to today's consumers.
We also saw that the marketing needed a unifying idea. Without one, every campaign, email and web page has to make its own case. With one, every touchpoint reinforces the same message.
And the website needed to do more. For a financial institution, the website is often the front door. It's where people compare products, look for answers and decide whether an institution is right for them. GTKY's site needed to make products easier to find and the overall experience easier to use.
The Plan
Our work centered around three priorities.
1. Clarify the Messaging
Working alongside leadership, we developed a marketing roadmap and a messaging framework. The goal was to give the credit union a consistent way to talk about who it is, what it offers and why it matters, whether a member has banked there for decades or is opening a first account.
2. Build a Unified Brand Platform
From that messaging came "Think Greater," a brand platform that ties the credit union's marketing together across channels. It gave GTKY one idea to build campaigns, content and member communications around. It also created a more consistent experience for members wherever they encounter the brand.
3. Redesign the Member Experience Online
We redesigned GTKY's website with three goals in mind: better usability, better product visibility and a better overall member experience. Members and prospective members should be able to find what they need quickly and understand their options without friction.
The Results
Today, GTKY has a brand that reflects both its history and its direction. "Think Greater" gives the organization a unified voice across channels, and the redesigned website makes it easier for members to find products and get what they need.
Just as important, the credit union now has a strategy behind its marketing rather than a collection of separate efforts. The roadmap built during planning continues to guide decisions as the organization grows.
That's why the work didn't stop at launch. We continue to serve as GTKY's full-service marketing partner, supporting campaigns, content creation, digital marketing, product promotion, member communications and strategic initiatives across the organization.
But the most meaningful result is this: GTKY modernized without losing what made it trusted in the first place.
